What are the costs of a cremation urn for ashes, and what is it based on?

Our range is characterized by competitively priced urns made from high-quality materials. Of course, there are also 'more expensive' urns in our range. These are mostly unique or handmade designs made by our artists. They are skilfully designed art objects, of which no single urn is the same.

Much attention and time is spent on the design and decoration of our urns. Currently, our supplying artists mainly come from high quality European workshops. From Dutch stainless steel handicrafts to Belgium ceramics and from French marble to Italian porcelain, we’re always looking for the most authentic craftsmanship in its domain.

This page explains the price differences in more detail. A standard urn can be engraved with a name, the dates and / or a text. The choice of materials also plays a role in the price. For example, bronze is more expensive as a raw material than metal. In addition, an urn can be painted, placed on an urn base in the garden or in an urn monument in a cemetery. It goes without explanation that a handcrafted urn is more expensive due to the amount of man-hours required to complete it. Finally, we explain more about custom-made urns.

What does an urn cost?

We offer urns from $50 / GBP. This’d be a basic model urn. The average price of an urn is about 250, GBP or Dollar. Of course, we also have urns that are custom-made by our artists. The prices will be determined in consultation with you. The prices mentioned in our online store include VAT and shipping costs for the UK. Duties and taxes are not included for the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Engraving the urn with a name, dates and / or text

The costs for personalizing the urn by means of different engraving techniques vary per urn. The provision of an urn with an engraving plate is the cheapest and quickest way. Our statue or art urns can be hand engraved by the artist in question. Natural stone urns are often engraved by means of sandblasting. The letters are deepened in the natural stone. After engraving, the letters are painted.

It is possible to provide the stainless steel urns with image and text by means of laser engraving. Certain brass and ceramic urns can also be laser-engraved. This is often the most labor-intensive and therefore the most expensive way of personalizing. Proof designs are always sent back and forth for approval and the engravings are placed on the urns by professionals in the workshops in question.

Having the urn painted by an artist

We work together with a wide range of artists who are very skilled in, among other things, the painting of urns. Hand-painted ornamental urns are hardly recognizable as ash urn due to the refined decorations and shape, which makes them very suitable as an ornamental in-house. All decorations are painted entirely by hand by the pottery painter. On average, it takes about 10 weeks before a fully painted urn is finished.

There are also decorative techniques that can be used to represent the symbolism of the bond with the deceased. These artists use the techniques brush painting, airbrush, silkscreen, by sculpting or a photo technique. After the production and drying period, the urn is glazed and baked at a high temperature. Clay and glaze form a sustainable whole.

The shape and material selection of an urn

Our urns are available in many shapes and sizes. The most commonly used materials are ceramics, stainless steel, glass, bronze, brass, copper, marble, granite, porcelain, fiberglass, steel and wood. The choice of materials is usually based on where the urn will be placed. If the urn is placed indoors, all material types comply. If the urn is placed outside in for example, a funeral garden in the columbarium or in an urn cellar in an urn monument, we recommend using urns made of stainless steel, natural stone or bronze. Not all materials can withstand the weather, which means that an urn can, for example, burst and crack during frost periods. Because these materials are extremely durable (winter hardy), they are often more expensive than, for example, ceramic or brass urns.

In addition to the material of the urn, the shape and colour play an important role. We encourage you to browse our website and see which style suits you or the deceased. Pay attention to the dimensions and capacity measurements stated on the urn. This way you know what the true size is and whether the entire ashes fits in the urn. If you want a special form, this can be realized by one of our artists. Of course there is a different price tag than a 'standard' urn from our collection. It is therefore art.

Placing the urn on a base or pillar

If you want to place the urn in the garden, for example, a base or pillar is a nice way to present the urn. Thus you provide both a piece of art and a memorial in your garden. Placing a text or engraving on the pedestal is a possible option.

You can also place a pedestal in your home. For example, it can serve as a house altar. A house altar is a place in your home where you can remember your loved one. A place to find quiet, to meditate, to pray. You can commemorate your loved one on the house altar. You can place the photo and / or the urn of your loved one’s on the house altar. You can also light a candle on the house altar or burn a little incense. Depending on your cultural tradition anything is possible. Having a customized urn is an emotional event after saying goodbye to your loved one. For some people the creation of a funeral urn as a final resting place is the final phase of letting go. In addition to the memory of your loved one, you often have something tangible in your home. Think of the cremation ashes, a lock of hair, a fingerprint or jewelry that your loved one wore. With all these tangible memories you can have a very personal and unique urn made to measure. Even if your loved one had a special hobby, loved a particular sport, was a nature lover or, for example, worked with great passion in an industry; it all can be used as a thee or ingredient for the final piece. Basically, everything is possible.

Because a lot of time and attention is spent on fabricating a custom-made urn (think of man-hours of an artist, materials, sometimes having to create a new mould) the price will be considerably higher than our 'standard' range of urns. But depending on your specific wish, we will get it to work.
